Baseball team drops second straight game

Oral Roberts scored in each of the first four straight innings to gather a six-run lead over WSU on Wednesday, a 6-4 loss.

A single in the first inning from Michael Huntgate drove in Nick Roark for an early lead. The hits kept coming for the Golden Eagles. They tallied 13 hits and five RBIs in route to their victory.

Luke Ritter recorded his first career-hit, a single that drove home Gunnar Troutwine to tie the game in the top of the second inning.

Oral Roberts would take back the momentum, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the second, a lead the Shockers would never recover from.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Rolando Martinez increased the lead to five runs on a two-run blast into right field.

WSU earned some assistance from struggles in the Golden Eagles’ bullpen. The Shockers cut the lead to three runs after four straight walks.

Head coach Todd Butler’s veteran bullpen closed out the rest of the game, allowing no runs and three hits.

The Golden Eagles’ struggling bullpen gave the Shockers a final chance to regain the lead after loading the bases with a hit and two walks in the top of the ninth inning. Ryan Tinkham took four straight balls to bring Josh DeBacker home for the fourth run of the game.

Down two runs and the bases loaded, freshman Alec Bohm stepped up to the plate; swinging hard he popped out for an infield fly, the first out of the inning.

The momentum seemed to falter after, Troutwine struck out looking and Greyson Jennista lined-out to centerfield for the final outs.

Wichita State is on the road again this weekend as they travel to Albuquerque to take on the 3-1 New Mexico Lobos in a three game series.
