SGA prepares for spring semester

Wichita State’s Student Government Association has several projects it would like to work on this semester.

Student Body Vice President Khondoker Usama said he wants SGA to hone in on two issues this semester: campus safety and reform at Ablah Library.

“It has been my passion during all my days at WSU,” Usama said of campus safety initiatives.

Usama said SGA will work tirelessly to ensure campus safety is addressed and that students’ needs are met.

In addition, Usama wants to look at reforming parts of Ablah Library.

“We know that Ablah Library does a great job in providing services to students of different kinds,” Usama said. “However, there is a lot that can be done. I see the potential to have a reformed library.”

Usama said the reform could come in changing the 24/7 section of the library and making sure students utilizing it have access to resources they need. He said non-students often occupy the computers in the 24/7 section late at night, leaving students without computer access. Usama said he would like to change that.

If needed, Usama said, a library taskforce could be created that would look into ways of improving Ablah Library.

Another initiative Shepard said SGA is considering is looking at ways to make the university more energy efficient. He said SGA could look into making some buildings solar powered.

“Obviously, this is not something that will happen this semester, but if we can start the conversation now and in a year see the product, I’m grateful for it,” he said.

SGA meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in RSC 233.
