MVC biographies: Baseball

Wichita State

The Shockers finished 2014 fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 13-8 record. The team finished with a 19-10 home record and a 9-16 record away. The Shockers returned eight starters and lost one player to graduation. The Shockers started the 2015 season with a 4-10 record and are 3-5 at home. Key players are Mikel Mucha, Ryan Tinkham, Chase Rader and Jordan Farris. Mucha leads the team in batting with a .366 average.

Bradley

The Braves are off to a hot start with an 11-2 record. The team is impressive away and in neutral fields (5-1, 6-1). In 2014, the Braves struggled with a 24-27 record and lost more than half of their home games. The Braves finished last season with a 5-16 record in the MVC.

Dallas Baptist

Dallas Baptist finished last year with a 40-21 record. The team was dominant at home with a 20-8 record and finished conference play with a 14-7 record. Dallas Baptist is led by Camden Duzenack and David Martinelli.

Evansville

Evansville finished last year with a 34-21 record. The team was solid both away and at home, though they struggled in neutral fields. Evansville finished in the MVC in good standing with a 15-6 record. The team is lead by Kevin Kaczmarski and Josh Jyawook.

Illinois State

Illinois State finished 2014 with a 33-22 record and was 10-11 in the MVC. The team was above average in home and away games. However, Illinois State was dominant on neutral fields with an impressive 11-3 record. The team is lead by Paul DeJong, Daniel Dwyer and Joe Kelch. Illinois State is 6-6 right now and lost five of its six away games.

Indiana State

Indiana State was an above average team in the MVC last year. The team finished conference play with a 14-7 record and an overall record of 35-18. This year’s team will be led by Derek Hannahs and Landon Curry. The Sycamores are 4-7 at this point and has lost three of its four away games.

Missouri State

Missouri State is off to a pretty good start this season with an 8-4 record, a better start than last year. The team is 1-1 in away games and 7-3 on neutral fields. The Bears have yet to host a home game. The team is lead by Blake Graham, Justin Paulsen and Spencer Johnson.

Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois struggled in 2014. The team finished with the worst record in the MVC with a 4-17 record in conference play. The team’s overall record was 26-31. 20 of those losses were away. The team is struggling at this point with a 2-12 record. Southern Illinois has lost all of its six away games and is 1-3 at home.
