Player to watch for Shockers

She is a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Branson, Mo. and a player to continue watching this women’s Shocker basketball season.

Wichita State women’s basketball head coach Jody Adams, senior guards Jamillah Bonner and Alex Harden agree, Michaela Dapprich is an asset for them on the court this season.

Last year as a sophomore, Dapprich averaged nine points per game. Helping the Shockers go 26-7 in overall play.

Both her teammates and coach agree that Dapprich has embraced more of a leadership role more now than ever before.

“Dap (Michaela) has always been a contributor,” Adams said.

“What she has added to her game this time is her confidence.”

Adams said she feels she can’t force players to be vocal, it is a choice. A choice that Michaela Dapprich has now made.

“Dap has stepped up this year,” Bonner said. “Last season she was doing her own thing, this year, she is commanding the court and helping the underclassmen.”

Last year, Dapprich averaged 24.8 minutes a game, with 88 overall defensive rebounds and 31 steals.

“She is a silent assassin,” Adams said. “When you see a young woman grow like she has in this offseason, it’s encouraging.”

Dapprich helped WSU take down Ohio State and Clemson last week. She sank five 3-pointers and scored 19 points against OSU. As for Clemson, Dapprich scored 14 points, tying for the most on the team.
