Volleyball team falls to Jayhawks in NCAA Tournament

Shocker volleyball traveled to Lawrence on Friday to compete in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

In the first round, the Shockers were scheduled to play against the Kansas Jayhawks in the Allen Fieldhouse. The team fell to the Jayhawks 3-1 in the scores of 25-23, 25-29, 20-25, and 25-22.

Although the team did not advance in the tournament, the Shockers put up a fight.

Senior Ashley Andrade had 16 kills. Senior Sam Sanders added 13 kills and senior Elizabeth Fields had 11. Freshman Alyssa Carney had a total of 13 digs and senior Chelsey Feekin had 44 assists.

“Obviously, disappointed that our season has come to an end,” Head coach Chris Lamb said. “And the career of the four most special athletes that our program has ever had.”

Shocker volleyball players Andrade, Feekin, Field and Sanders will be graduating later this week

“We worked really hard and gave it all we could,” Feekin said. “I know we are not happy with the turnout but we are happy with our season.”

Winning the Missouri Valley Conference title for the first time since 2004, the Shockers ended the season at 28-7.
