Falcons shot down by Shockers

The 0-5 Air Force Falcons flew into Charles Koch Arena Sunday afternoon looking for their first win of the season against the Lady Shockers.

The Shockers prevailed in a 61-37 victory and improved to 5-2 with a three game winning streak.

The Falcons played defensively early in the game. It took nearly two minutes for the Shockers to score the first points.

Wichita State senior forward Michelle Price took a rebound the full length of the court but was fouled driving to the basket.

Price stepped to the line to shoot two free throws. She missed the first but made the second, giving the Lady Shockers an early 1-0 lead.

Both teams struggled with shooting. The Shockers were only 26 percent from the field in the first half of the game.

After five minutes without a field goal, head coach Jody Adams called a timeout. Following the timeout, the Shockers moved the ball around the perimeter and went inside to wear down the Falcons defense.

Redshirt junior Kelsey Jacobs made the first Shocker field goal of the game on a layup to give the Lady Shockers a 15-6 lead with 7:43 left in the first half.

The Shockers shot 11-16 for 68 percent from the free-throw line in the first half. The Shockers led 25-15 at halftime.

Nearly three minutes into the second half, the Shockers pushed the lead to 27 to17.

At the 8:49 mark, senior forward Michelle Price stole the ball. A hard foul caused her to land awkwardly and temporarily leave the game. Price returned late in the game to score back-to-back baskets leading to a Shocker victory.

Allie Decker and Jamillah Bonner both scored ten points to lead the Lady Shockers.

The Shocker’s next game is Thursday Dec. 5 against Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Tex. Tip off is 7 p.m.
