SAC gives opportunities for student involvement

The Welcomefest booths seek to make students feel at home on the Wichita State campus from Aug. 19 to Aug. 30.

The event is coordinated by members of the Student Activities Council (SAC).

Shannon Glover, president of SAC, believes in the importance of making students feel comfortable on campus.

“When you walk on campus, it’s important to see somebody smiling and being encouraging,” she said.

Glover said many events make up Welcomefest.

Kiss’um Bye will celebrate the end of summer with music, contests and games.

A beach party will also help to kick off the fall semester as summer draws to a close.

Other fall semester activities include Mud Events, Shocktoberfest, Humans vs. Zombies and Trunk or Treat.

“If I were to recommend one event for freshmen to participate in the fall, it would be Shocktoberfest,” Glover said.

SAC’s Arts & Culture committee, headed by Joan Kuker, has hosted fashion shows, cultural dinners, and other events that highlight and celebrate the different cultures and groups that can be found on campus.

For the more serious at heart, there’s the Issues & Awareness committee. Under the lead of Alex Webb, Issues & Awareness focuses on exposing students to new ideas that affect them in real relevant ways.
