A call to action for SGA: less debate and more results

As a student at Wichita State I take pride in our campus. I enjoy being a part of a unique student body that incorporates a blended culture comprised of various outside elements.

I have seen various student governments preach positive change and have also watched them falter. Being a part of SGA showed me the difficulties in accomplishing these promises.

However, I have noticed that no student government while I have been a student here has focused on pertinent issues affecting the university.

They have sat idly by as buildings continue to become dilapidated. We are building a new student union while our other educational facilities continue to be neglected. I do believe that a new student union is appealing to incoming students, but must we not focus on expanding our university to become a more thriving community?

We elect these people to govern in our best interest, but I do not see where our best interests are being represented. We should have equal access to the latest technologies as other universities in the state enjoy with newer renovated facilities that compete for students; we should expand our programs to offer more competitive degrees.

WSU has the potential to become a thriving institution of higher learning rather than an average D-1 university. We just must ensure that our leadership possesses the same desires moving forward. I ask that moving into election season that students turn out to vote in the best interests of the university for the future.
