Dugan, Glover: Building better relationships
Justin Dugan and Shannon Glover have differences, yet they are running for president and vice president of the Wichita State Student Government Association.
Their differences, they both said, make them a “great team.” He is a traditional student, and she is a non-traditional student.
“We balance each other out, and we make a great team,” Glover said. “We are more diverse, and we represent a larger portion of students.”
Dugan added, “The different personalities really compliment each other. We have different skill sets, but they work together really well.”
Dugan grew up in Clearwater and attended Bishop Carroll High School. Glover grew up in Wichita and attended Northwest High School
Dugan enjoys playing tennis, has a calm, reserved personality and has worked on his family’s farm most of his life.
Glover wears thick-rim glasses, enjoys reading classic English literature and describes herself as “quirky.”
Dugan is an accounting major. After he graduates, he wants to earn a degree as a Certified Public Accountant and help farmers with their finances.
Glover is an English major. After she graduates, she is undecided if she wants to go to law school or get a PhD.
Dugan has been an SGA senator and a Supreme Court justice. Glover is an SGA senator.
They think they can represent a large group of students and the average WSU student.
“Justin and I are all about regular students,” Glover said. “A student who balances work, school, family commitments and involvement.”
This goal to reach “regular” students is part of the reason behind their “Common Challenge” campaign and their plans for SGA and the university.
“The party name Common Challenge came from us looking at the changing campus culture,” Glover said. “We decided it was a time for all of the students to bond together and push for Bardo’s plan.”
Dugan and Glover want SGA to be transparent, accountable and open. They want to have SGA have a strategic plan that compliments WSU President John Bardo’s plan.
Glover said she wanted SGA to be more “visual” on campus and an organization that every student knows about.
“Branding is huge to me,” Glover said. “I want SGA to be relevant on campus. I want us to be visible, and I want students to care about what we are doing.”
The two said Glover’s experience as president of Student Activities Council, as well as Dugan’s experience as president of Beta Theta Pi fraternity will help them build relationships with students.
“We have a very diversified ticket,” Dugan said.
Both said this will give them an edge in the election.
“Our campaign is not as polished, but we care about the people.” Glover said. “Our campaign has genuine heart and honesty, and history and execution and experience behind it.”
