Letter to the Editor: Keep dreams alive in new year

As we enter this New Year, we should promise ourselves one thing. That thing is to regain our ability as a nation to simply dream, and as we dream, we must dream without concern about current reality.

As a nation, we have succumbed to reality. Our dreams are essentially what have made our country great. They are what drive tens of thousands of people here daily.

Two brothers dreamed of flying and eventually used their God-given abilities to make flying a reality. Now we have air forces and civilian aircraft pushing the limits of technology.

A young preacher spoke to our nation about a dream he had that we would be judged by the content of our character, not the color of our skin. Although we have not achieved his dream, we have made great strides in race relations.

As we enter 2014, we can no longer allow the current reality of our situations to hinder the magnificent potential of our dreams. While it is true that we must live and govern within our means, we cannot set our dreams to meet reality. Instead we must force reality to fit our dreams.

As a nation, we are using doubts and budgets to kill the dreams of men and women who are destined for greatness, but the reality of now is their greatest barrier.

We should encourage the dreamers and instead of killing their dreams, we should creatively figure a way to make it possible.

So in 2014, I encourage you all to dream big, and pursue your dreams. When you are told it is not possible, it is much too difficult, or that you shouldn’t, I am telling you that you can and that you should.
