Fall World Series splits baseball team in two

The Wichita State baseball team plays its first game of the season against itself Thursday.

No worries, this happens every year.

The Fall World Series is an annual matchup that splits the Shocker players into a “Black” team and a “Gold” team to play against each other to cap off the fall training.

Assistant coach Brian Walker said that a series of games at the end of the fall is a common practice for many schools before starting individual training during the winter months.

Walker said the teams had a mock draft on Monday to determine the teams with the captains being Cale Elam for the Black team and A.J. Ladwig for the Gold team.

Walker said that the coaches as players are eager to play the series after going through a long fall of practicing.

“It’s exciting to go out and watch them compete and it will definitely be something that we’re excited about watching,” Walker said.

Walker said it’s hard to say what kind of turnout the games will have, but with the attendance the team has seen at the inter-squad games, he has a feeling fans are going to come out and watch.

Game one takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and game five is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday O at Eck Stadium.

The games are open to the public with admission being a minimum of one can of food for each game to be donated to the Kansas Food Bank.
