Three Lady Shockers scored in double digits as the Lady Shockers defeated the Central Methodist University (CMU) Eagles in their first exhibition game of the season Sunday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena.

Junior guard Jamillah Bonner led the team with 20 points, and Junior Alex Harden added 10 points with eight rebounds and three block shots. Senior forward Michelle Price put in 15 points.

The Eagles, coached by James Arnold, are from the NAIA Heartland of America Athletic Conference. They finished 25-8 last season, and made the 2013 NAIA Division 1 Tournament first round.

CMU scored the first four points of the game to give the Shockers an early lead. CMU Bergandie Lewis was given a free throw after being fouled on the play. Lewis made the first free throw, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Lewis went on to miss the second free throw, and CMU Taylor Cornelison rebounded the Lewis miss and kicked it out to Morgan Vetter for a three pointer, giving the Eagles a brief lead 4-0.

The Shockers come right back to take the lead 6-5 on a Bonner jump shot over the suddenly overmatched Eagles.

The Eagles hit back-to-back three point shots to go on a 6-0 run to cut the Shocker lead from 21 to 16.

The Shockers lead by as much as 20 points in the first half, and lead 37 to 19 at halftime.

The second half saw much of the same successes, as the Shockers turned up the defense and pushed their lead to 27 points. The Shockers held a 14-5 run lead thanks to Price and Bonner, who scored the Shockers’ first two points of the half, followed by back-to-back baskets by Bonner. The Shockers then cruised to an easy victory, 63-42.

“We have a few things to improve on, Adams said. “It’s pretty early. If we continue to do the little things, we will be alright.”
