Men’s tennis ends play at Regional Championships

Tulsa, Okla. held a bag of mixed results for Shocker tennis. The tournament, which ended Monday, began with a loss from Jocelyn Devilliers in a tight match 6-4, 2-6 (8). Three other Shockers found better results in their first matches.

Nine seeded Tin Ostojic, Tomislav Gregurovic and Ilija Cuic all won their first matches. Facing a familiar foe, Ostojic beat Ben Mullins of Missouri Valley rival Drake, 6-4, 7-5. Gregurovic defeated Hall Fess of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-3, and Cuic won over Patrick Kella from St. Louis, 6-3, 6-2, to set up a match with another Drake Bulldog Matt Frost.

In doubles, Croatian duo Cuic and Ostojic had a first round bye, but fell in the second round to Robin Goodman and Ravi Patel of Drake 8-4.

Gregurovic and Guillermo Nicol lost to Billy Paluch and Jake Norman from former MVC school Creighton in a close match, 8-7 (6).

In the round of 32, Gregurovic and Cuic both came up short against Dusty Boyer and Matt Frost respectively.

Ostojic defeated Vasileious Stavropoulous of Nebraska, 6-2, 6-2 to move to the round of 16 to face Boyer. Ostojic fell to Boyer, 7-5, 6-4.

“It was a great experience,” Ostojic said, “I’m glad I was able to be a part of it.”

The Shockers will play next at the MVC Individual Championships in Des Moines, Iowa Nov. 8-10.
