Wichita State Men’s golf team finishes a tough season opener

The Wichita State men’s golf team took their lumps as they returned from season debut over the weekend.

The team finished their play at the 2013 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Monday, closing the season-opening tournament in 15th place out of 16 schools.

Michael Boyer delivered steady play during the competition and finished the tournament tied for seventh with a 3-under par 213 (70-75-68).

He made five birdies and just one bogey over the final 18 holes on Monday.

The Air Force Falcons men’s golf team dominated the 2013 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational from start to finish, winning the tournament for the fourth time by 12 strokes over the second-place UTEP Miners.

The Falcons’ Kyle Westmoreland came away with the medalist honors on his home course, recording a 204 (-12) to finish ahead of his teammate Matthew Dunn and University of Texas-El Paso’s Frederik Dreier who tied for second with a 209 (-7).

The Shockers take the course next week at the Ram Master Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
