Freshman basketball player released from hospital

Wichita State basketball freshman guard D.J. Bowles was released from Via Christi on St. Francis around 1 p.m. Sunday after being hospitalized for five days.

On Tuesday, Bowles collapsed during a scrimmage at the Charles Koch Arena and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Upon arriving at the hospital, he was listed in serious condition.

On Wednesday, Bowles was updated and listed as in fair condition as he continued to be examined to find a cause for the blackout. A confirmed diagnosis had not been announced.

Upon Bowles’ release, he will continue to undergo treatment and exams to determine a cause for the blackout. It has not been announced when he will be able to return to the court.

“All of our thoughts go out to D.J., his family and our men’s basketball program,” Eric Sexton of media relations said in a news release Wednesday.
