Missouri Valley softball tournament starts today

The Wichita State softball team stepped up to the plate on Sunday with a win over Creighton, earning themselves a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament this weekend. The tournament is hosted by number one seed Creighton and will take place in Omaha, Neb.

Although the Shockers are coming into the tournament as the lowest seed, coach Kristi Bredbenner still feels confident about the team’s chances.

“We have a .500 record against the top two seeds, we have beaten the number three seed team, and we have beaten the number five seed,” said Bredbenner. “We have played everybody and have had some success.”

The Lady Shockers will take on number five seed Southern Illinois Thursday at 11:05 a.m., and if they win, they will play number four seed Northern Iowa at 4:05 p.m. later that day.

The tournament will continue throughout the weekend with the championship game on Sunday at 5:07 p.m.

Bredbenner is optimistic about her team’s chance for success in the tournament.

“When we put it all together, we are a pretty solid softball team,” she said. “If we play hard, and to our ability, I think we can make a run.”
