SGA Senate meets in Ulrich, thanked for promoting the arts

The Student Government Association met in the recently reopened Ulrich Museum of Art on Wednesday. It was an appropriate setting for a meeting that focused largely on SGA’s contribution to a new art installation.

Roy Smith, adviser for the Contemporary Art Society, attended the meeting to thank the group for its contribution to the installation.

“You and WSU are making huge shifts and contributions to the art world,” Smith said.

SGA approved the funding during last semester’s fees hearings as a one-time allotment. “Response to Provocation: Living Memoirs of the Culture Wars” is on loan from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

The artwork will have features that people can interact with, like allowing people to touch and manipulate parts of “Response to Provocation: Living Memoirs of the Culture Wars.”

“You get to do things you’re not usually allowed to do in art galleries,” Smith said. “There’s interactivity for people who are older or younger.”

Once the exhibit has been open to the public for a while, Smith said that the Contemporary Art Society will give a report about the exhibit’s success. Smith and members of the organization who serve on SGA expressed gratitude for the contribution made.

“Come by, see what we’re doing, see what we’re installing, because you’re part of it,” Smith said.
