Senior Jackie Church celebrates during the Shockers Aug. 31 game against BYU.

The Wichita State volleyball team defeated the University of Oklahoma 3-1 on Wednesday in Norman, Okla.

Scores were 25-21, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-14.

The Shockers have defeated Oklahoma in five of their last six matches dating back to the 2008-2009 season.

Sam Sanders led the WSU attack by tying a career-high with 17 kills.

The win should give WSU (11-5) a big boost in the RPI, an important number when it comes to getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Shockers will return home this weekend when they face Illinois State on Friday and Indiana State on Saturday.

Both games begin at 7 p.m.

WSU is 4-2 in the early Missouri Valley Conference season. Northern Iowa continues to pace the conference with its 5-0 mark.

Illinois State enters the weekend at 9-6, 3-2 MVC. Indiana State is 3-12, 1-4 MVC.

The Shockers swept both teams a year ago in five matchups, including a game against Indiana State in the MVC Tournament.

Friday’s home game against Illinois State is being sponsored by the Student Government Association with a chance to win floor seats to SGA’s Oct. 20 concert featuring Joe Nichols and James Otto.
