Volleyball splits weekend matchups

The Wichita State volleyball team started its weekend road matches on a high note with a 3-1 win over Bradley. The Shockers relied on a career match from setter Chelsey Feekin to win 20-25, 25-13, 25-16 and 28-18.

Feekin had 10 kills, 37 assists and 13 digs in the match. The performance by Feekin was the first triple-double by a Shocker since 1999. Feekin also hit .571 in the match.

Bradley came out strong in the first set building a 17-11 lead before a 4-0 run gave the Braves a 21-13 lead. The Braves closed the set out 25-20 after holding off a 4-0 Shocker run.

WSU bounced back in the second set, building a 5-1 lead after an Ashley Andrade kill. Back-to-back kills by Feekin and Elizabeth Field gave the Shockers a 10-5 lead as they rolled to a 25-13 win in the second set.

In the third set the Shockers again rolled to a quick win. Andrade had four kills early in the set to give WSU a 4-1 lead.

A 7-0 run put the Shockers up 10-4 on their way to winning the set 25-18.

On Saturday, the Shockers traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on Northern Iowa, the top-ranked team in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Shockers fell to UNI 26-28, 25-11, 25-18 and 28-16. The UNI win was the 59th-straight MVC win for the Panthers.

WSU took an early 6-2 lead in the first set off a Field and Feekin block. The Shockers were down 25-26, but won the set 28-26 with kills from Sam Sanders and Emily Adney, and a service ace by Sanders.

The Panthers took control in the second set building a 6-3 lead on the way to a 25-11 win.

The Shockers kept the third set close, trailing 22-18 before UNI closed out the set with three-straight kills.

In the fourth set, WSU kept it close with a 7-7 tie midway through the set, before UNI took a 20-12 lead on the way to a 25-16 win.

The Shockers are 10-5, 4-2 Missouri Valley Conference. WSU travels to Oklahoma on Wednesday to take on the Sooners at 6 p.m.
