Vishal Sharma, a graduate student studying aerospace engineering, works in the circulation department at Ablah Library at Wichita State.

Sharma has worked for the library since the summer of 2015. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from his home country India.

He said he enjoys attending and working at WSU.

“I haven’t seen other universities (in America), but this is a peaceful place,” he said.

He picked WSU to pursue his master’s degree in part because of its aviation history.

“The Air Capital of the World is a great space for engineering,” Sharma said.

Sharma said he is enrolled in six credit hours this semester. He attends classes in the early evening before heading to Ablah to work. He works Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to midnight and helps close down the library.

He said one incident while closing the library that stands out in his memory is when a patron did not want to leave because he did not get a Papercut refund. Papercut is the WSU Libraries printing system. Sharma said the man even made a co-worker cry because of his belligerent attitude.

Sharma said the man came back the next day still demanding his $20 refund from the daytime library staff. The man eventually left and never returned.

Aside from that incident, Sharma said he enjoys working at the library.

“I like working here because I get to meet people,” he said. “The WSU people are friendly. It’s challenging, but fun to work here.”

On the weekends, Sharma enjoys playing cricket at the Heskett Center tennis courts with friends.

Once he’s done with his education, Sharma hopes to work for a car company to work on cars and wants to move on to working on racing cars.
