Wichita State’s Opera Theater is performing this weekend. Performances are at 7:30 Thursday through Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Derksen Fine Arts Center.

The most beautiful and boisterous vocals on campus are featured in this weekend’s operas, “L’Enfant” and “Gianni Schicchi.” This dreamy double feature showcases two whimsical one-act operas featuring the students of Fine Arts.

“L’Enfant” follows a troublesome young boy who treats everything around him with aggression and carelessness. When his furniture and the local animals gain consciousness to enact their revenge, he is forced to deal with the consequences of his actions.

This short opera is dreamy and fantastical — taking viewers on a colorful trip through the boy’s mischievous adventure.

The second opera, “Gianni Schicchi” follows a family’s unconventional attempts to find their distant relative’s will. Each member of the family is desperate for a cut of the profit and is willing to go to uncanny lengths to achieve it.

A rambunctious comedy, “Gianni Schicchi” is quick-witted and explores complicated familial relationships with a light heart.

Performances are at 7:30 Thursday through Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Duerksen Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are free for students with a Shocker ID. Non-student tickets are $10 for children, $18 for faculty/military, and $20 for adults.
