Running with Reynolds: Get the right jams
A playlist can make or break a workout.
I’ve taken exercise classes — which probably still gave me a good workout — but I felt like such a dud afterward solely because of the bad music the instructor played.
Depending on the type of workout — if you’re going for cardio or for weight training — here are a few tracks to get the most out of your workout.
Cardio
“Centuries” by Fall Out Boy
This song has some pretty intense build ups that are sure to get you amped during a long-distance run. Plus, the lyrics will inspire you to keep going.
“Wild Child” by Juliet Simms
Simms, a former “The Voice” contestant, put out this song shortly after her time on the singing competition, and I love it. It’s got a quirky mix of rap and rock that keep me going during an intense cardio routine.
“Feel This Moment” by Pitbull & Christina Aguilera
This up-beat pop song is about living in the moment and jamming out, so it pairs nicely with a good run.
“Applause” by Lady GaGa
Because you run for the applause, right?
Weights
“All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor
This is one of my favorites to lift weights to, especially if I’m doing squats or some other kind of leg or glute workout. Because, well, you know.
“Survival” by Eminem
Well, just about any Eminem will do for any kind of workout. But, I like this one because it’s “survival of the fittest,” so you better crank out more bicep curls, because Eminem said so.
“Boyfriend” by Justin Bieber
This is the only Bieber song I own. Promise. Mostly I just like the beat, which I can time with reps of whatever I’m lifting. Make every one count.
