SGA discusses legislation, passes funding
Student Government Association met Wednesday to discuss position appointments, changes to how the treasurer and student advocate are appointed, changes to student fees fixed-line items and funding for individuals and an organization.
Aiden Cattermole was appointed to director of the Oversight and Inquiry committee, filling Legislative Director Brandon James’ former position.
Senator Ali Raza was transferred from the campus issues committee to the oversight and inquiry committee to fill Cattermole’s vacancy.
Legislation changes also underwent a first read.
The first change would allow the treasurer and student advocate positions to be nominated by the president. As the law is written now, the senate can see all applicants and the position is filled by senate.
In the new law, the senate would still confirm presidential nominations.
The second change would move the accounts for Campus Recreation, Student Health and Student Involvement from the non-fixed-line items to the fixed-line items. This would change the way the budgets can be adjusted by senate.
“It protects these budgets from politics,” SGA President Darren Beckham said.
SGA also approved funding for individuals attending conferences and for the Association of Hindu Students in America (AHINSA).
The funding paid for AHINSA’s Holi celebration that took place over the weekend.
