REVIEW: ‘The Batman’ is beautiful but disrespectful of the Batman legacy
The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, dropped in theaters earlier this week much to the joy of hundreds of thousands of long term DC fans around the world, including myself. So you can hardly imagine my disappointment when the $100 million budget film with an 85% score on The Batman – Rotten Tomatoes was utterly average. Reeves dropped the ball big time on this film that had so much potential with stars such as Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright and Colin Farrell.
While the cinematography was stunning and was coupled with some of the best music you will ever hear, it does little to make up for the needlessly complex, heavily drawn out three-hour spanning bellyflop of a plot. What’s the point of making a visually stunning movie if your audience can hardly stay awake through it, much less know what is actually going on.
We know and love Batman for the fighting scenes, Bruce Wayne’s internal and external struggles and his cool tech, but this film was nothing more than a play-detective snoozefest. There were dozens of names and useless characters tossed around during the film that had little connection to the actual plot.
The screenwriters worked so hard on trying to make all of the pieces of The Riddlers puzzle fit together that they somehow forgot how real people actually talk. A good hour of the film could have been cut if they had just scrapped the repetitive dialog between characters and Bruce’s poor ramblings about justice, darkness and so forth.
Most of the dialog was a joke, excluding anything said by The Penguin (Colin Farrell) who single-handedly saved this film with his comical dialog. His character was one of few that stayed true to the originals without coming across as cliche or cheap. Thank goodness Warner Bros didn’t tarnish our favorite little snarky mob boss.
Even Kravitz as Cat Woman didn’t have a terrible performance, but it was clear that she was solely included to move the plot along to its droning end.
By the time I left the theater, it was clear that everyone else with me was just as glad that it had finally ended. To then search the internet for other negative reviews and find only the loving ravings of longtime DC fans who support the franchise to the death was so disappointing. I was baffled when, upon looking up reviews online, how much people loved it. I’m not sure what movie they saw, but no one in the theater was praising DC after the three hour trainwreck we had to endure.
I love Robert Pattinson, and The Batman gave him a great upgrade from his broody, elementary role of Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga. I see a lot of potential for him, especially in the expected Batman sequel, but until DC Entertainment Inc gets their affairs and sloppy storylines in order, you won’t be seeing me in the theaters for a Warner Bros film anytime soon.
Correction: A previous version of this story stated that Jeffrey Wright played The Penguin, The Penguin was actually played by Colin Farrell. This version was updated to reflect those changes.

The Batman
1. I can’t tell if this is an origin story or if he’s a ProVet at this point (police have no clue who he is or why he’s there but there’s a bat signal).
2. Wrong Batman. He looks like he’s just started getting high and sold his batmobile for drugs and a put together motorcycle from Mattel.
3. Zoe Kravitz . no Halle Berry, Michelle Pfeiffer or Eartha Kitt but she did good. (kiss kiss kiss for no reason) + (No origin like Cyborg)
4. Penguin was pointless. (cameo like Catwoman)
5. Batman comes to a entrance of a club, initiates a fight with two twin bouncers to enter inside instead of sneaking in, (but does it later on in the movie ) doesn’t have to fight the entire club of goons, assaults The Penguin in his office with no consequence?
6. So far Batman DC movies had, 2 penguins, 5 Jokers, 3 Catwoman’s, 2 riddlers,
9 origin stories
7. Batman afraid of heights, using a glider suit and parachute instead of his cape?
8. WTH ?!?
9. Who, what, why, the Riddler?
10. Super (corny) With
Darth Vader music.
This movie is too dark.
I’m going to cleanse myself with a Marvel movie, maybe
Deadpool or Wolverine.

HACK VANISH RECOVERED MY LOST 19.78 BITCOIN AND AIDED ME FIX MY CREDIT REPORT
In Dec, 2021, I invested the sum of 19.78 BTC with a fake blockchain impostor I met online, all the money I had saved up since 2014 got stolen just within a Month, my whole life almost crumbled, to crown it all my FICO score was so bad that I couldn’t even afford securing a loan to help my kids, but everything became better after I joined a forum online where I met people testifying about HACK VANISH, a hacker who has been helping thousands of people all over the world. I decided to reach out to him via the following contact shared on the platform Text/Call/WhatsApp: + 1 (747) 293-8514, Email: hackvanish@ gmail. Com, they responded and requested for all necessary information needed to aid my JOB, to my greatest surprise my bitcoin was recovered and my credit report fixed, FICO score was boosted to 783 across all 3-credit bureau’s, all negative items cleared just within 8 days. I can’t stop expressing my profound gratitude to this great team of hackers, I strongly recommend them to anyone in need.

Marvel fanboys creeping around

Jeffry Wright did not play the Penguin he played Gordon, Collin Farrell played the Penguin. Either you are brain dead or you are a 3 year old Marvel fan who cannot digest that a DC movie has done so well, you are giving such a negative review without even watching the movie. Shame you call yourself a critic.

Well not everyone can understand and enjoy the batman movie. Sorry you are not one. Go watch marvel.
Danie • Mar 17, 2022 at 12:54 am
Wow. Okay, so I’m not understanding how the film “disrespected” the Batman legacy. Maybe you’re misunderstanding it. Here’s some reading suggestions (I challenge you to complete it!):
1. Batman: Hush (Jeph Loeb, Jim Lee, et al)
2. Batman: The Long Halloween (Loeb/Tim Sale)
3. Batman: Dark Victory (Loeb/Sale)
4. Batman: Year One (Frank Miller)
Maybe after this little reading challenge, you can better understand why a lot of people enjoyed the film.

For me being it was very very disappointing , way to dark and lack luster for Batman he is an action hero not some crazed lunatic.
even cat woman was way off.
it was painful to watch for 3 hours.
the Actors were not the problem they were all great for what they were asked to do.
way must it be so dark and depressing?
its a movie after all we go to the Movies to get away from dark depressing stuff not for more..

Written by a critic with droll, negative and sometimes incorrect information about an enlightening, powerful screening of Gotham’s Son.
I suggest this person should hang up his popcorn and obnoxious opinions to search for a change in career.

A review written by a critic with droll, negative and sometimes incorrect information regarding this enlightening and powerful screening of Gotham’s Son.
It maybe time for this person to hang up his popcorn and obnoxious opinions to seek a more fitting career.

The critic who wrote this droll and negative review of this enlightening and powerful film of Gotham’s Son, possibly needs a change of career.

You certainly earned your paycheck from Marvel.
Seb • Mar 15, 2022 at 11:54 am
Jeffrey Wright played Jim Gordan, The Penguin was played by Colin Farrell
ron • Mar 15, 2022 at 9:40 am
the most comic book accurate batman movie is disrespectful to the character??? I totally understand if you didn’t like the movie it’s not everyone’s thing and not everyone has to think it’s good, but this article is objectively bad and a lot of the statements are just wrong. You’re either a marvel fan or a filmbro but either way stick to what you’re good at.
Charlie • Mar 15, 2022 at 8:18 am
This movie was in no way confusing and Jeffrey Wright certainly did not play the Penguin.
Josh Blau • Mar 15, 2022 at 6:44 am
Sadly I agree

Devin Psaki • Mar 14, 2022 at 11:57 pm
Robert Pattinson has been in SO MUCH since Twilight and has had such powerful performances that the reviewer obviously hasn’t seen. Even mentioning Twilight now is cheap and redundant, and does a disservice, especially stating, “I see a lot of potential for him.” What do you mean potential? He’s a solid star by now. Fucking look at his past five or six films.
Devin Psaki • Mar 14, 2022 at 11:55 pm
The Penguin wasn’t played by Jeffrey Wright. That was Colin Farrell.
Can’t even take this review seriously with glaring errors and inattention like that.
Anonymous • Mar 14, 2022 at 10:08 pm
Garbage take. Don’t even know that it was Colin Farrell who played the Penguin.
Dan • Mar 14, 2022 at 7:25 pm
Agree with your points, just a note – Jeffrey Wright didn’t play The Penguin.
Anonymous • Mar 15, 2022 at 9:35 pm
If you follow any of the batman comics you’d know that this was suppose to be a decetive/ mystery film and is based around a previous story before batman: hush.
Anonymous • Mar 14, 2022 at 7:18 pm
Jeffrey Wright did not play the Penguin. Did you even watch this movie?
scott • Mar 14, 2022 at 4:58 pm
this is a very terrible review, and can not take it seriously, you call your self a reporter yet did not do your job “the penguin (Jeffrey Wright)” single handily saved the film. it makes me wonder if you even watched it.. the Penguin was played by Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright played detective James Gordon. who ever allowed this to be published is a joke and did not audit this half attempt at a review. I’m not a hard core dc fan and i loved this movie. it finally gave us a proper batman who actually is a Detective in his own right .

Well said I agree 100% maybe the other reviewers were stoned I know I wished I was sitting through that stinker
