Addison Barnard becomes second Shocker to win AAC Player of the Year
After a second place finish last week in the American Athletic Conference, nine Shocker softball players received All-Conference honors on Wednesday.
Sophomore outfielder Addison Barnard was named Player of the Year in the conference. This is the second straight season a Shocker has won this award, after Sydney McKinney won it last year.
Four players on WSU’s roster received All-Conference honors for the first time in their career. One of those players is freshman pitcher Alison Cooper who was named to the All-Rookie team. Ahead of the conference tournament beginning on Thursday, Cooper has an 8-2 win loss record. She was also named to the conference weekly honor roll twice.
Sophomore outfielder Lauren Lucas was named First Team All-Conference and received her first all-conference award for her college career. The Little Elm, Texas native is currently batting third in the lineup and has a .409 batting average.
The Shockers will play No. 7 seed Memphis in the American Athletic Conference on Thursday at 1 p.m.
