Super Bowl commercials save the night
Half of us watch the Super Bowl for the actual game; the other half relishes in the commercials. For the latter, here are all the commercials worth commenting on.
– The first good commercial of the night went to Chevy, showing a bull getting loaded up on a truck. As they talk about how lonely he is, he heads to a farm and gets unloaded in front of some lady-cows saying, “Hello ladies.” Cow humor is funny.
– The first commercial that attempted funny and failed was TurboTax. I just don’t see what watching your date dance with a guy named Sean has to do with doing your taxes, but maybe that’s just me.
– Ellen Degeneres throwing down the dance moves for Beats Music was well done.
– Cheerios knocked it out of the park with their take on parents telling their only daughter about how they are expecting another child. She seemed confused but responded, “and a puppy?” which she follows with a look of pure sass. Dad doesn’t want to argue it, so he agrees.
– I usually am super annoyed when I hear the words Tim Tebow, but his T-Mobile commercials were hilarious. Every million dollar second was money well spent.
– Pistachios tricked me. The first part of their two-part commercial with Stephen Colbert was clever.
– David Beckham ran around naked, so there’s that.
– What I learned from Audi: DO NOT compromise, unless you want a horrendous crossbreed of dog to attack the nation. Best commercial of the night.
– Kia had a commercial with Morpheus from The Matrix. He sang, which was weird. I never want to see it again.
– After the most boring third quarter in Super Bowl history both on and off the field, Butterfinger set us back on track with “Nut-Butt and Choco” in marriage counseling, I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
– The men from the ‘90s hit show Full House were in a commercial for Dannon Oikos that looked like it was going to get a bit steamy before Bob Saget played chaperone and intervened.
– To the Soda Stream company: Dibs on Scarlett Johansson.
– The Budweiser commercial with the puppy was adorable and it made the world say, “awwww.”
The game was a disappointment, but I grade the commercials this year a solid B-. Until next season, signing off.
