Game day special: Honey roasted nuts
Nuts and beer go together like commercials and the Super Bowl. A standard for bars across the nation, nuts are known for having the perfect combination of crunchy, salty and sometimes even sweet.
Making your own baked nuts leaves a lot of room for messing around and experimentation. For the more timid, here’s a sweet ‘n’ salty cinnamon honey nut combo.
Ingredients
2 cups unsalted, uncooked nuts
They can either be one type or a mix. Peanuts, almonds and cashews are tasty choices. If using different nuts, bake in separate dishes to allow different cooking times.
2 tablespoons melted butter OR canola or vegetable oil
1/3 cups honey or agave
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. salt
½ to 1 tsp. ground cayenne pepper (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. In a bowl, combine butter, honey, cinnamon, salt and cayenne.
2. Spread nuts onto a baking sheet or glass cooking pan. Drizzle honey mixture onto nuts and stir to coat.
3. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes. Halfway through bake time, stir/flip nuts.
4. Test nuts at 12 minutes to see if cooked. Nuts should be easily bitten in half when cooked.
