This week’s brief news — June 14

RSC bowling lanes temporarily unavailable during June weekends

Bowling lanes and services will not be available at the Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes for the next two weekends as the facility hosts its annual Shocker bowling camp. Student bowlers from across the country will participate in the three-weekend-long training and practice sessions, the first of which was hosted last weekend. The lanes will be unavailable on June 16-19 and 23-26, from 4 p.m. on Friday to noon on Monday.

The Grill’s food and drink service will remain open and available for guests, students, faculty and staff.

Student Speech Language Hearing chapter given gold honors

Wichita State University’s National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Chapter has been awarded one of the most distinguished NSSLHA honors — the Gold Chapter Honors — in recognition of its achievements during the 2022-2023 academic year.

As one of only two Kansas universities to receive Gold Chapter Honors, the WSU chapter was commemorated in May for the group’s success in recruitment, engagement, service, community outreach, fundraising and advocacy.

The NSSLHA Chapter hosted various events last year, such as an ASD (autism spectrum disorder) Acceptance night, as part of the organization’s mission to foster and support communication science and disorder (CSD) based initiatives.

The chapter also sent more than 5,400 letters to state and federal legislators to advocate for change and reform for individuals suffering from CSDs. As the newest Gold Chapter honorees, WSU is one of 93 NSSLHA Chapters in the country to receive the distinction.

New Barton School director of executive education and CMD named

Christopher Garnier, former executive director of the Asian Institute of Technology Extension, has been named as the W. Frank Barton School of Business’s new director of executive education and Center for Management Development (CMD).

Garnier will work alongside CMD employees to provide leadership and workforce training to more than 150,000 individuals across Kansas. Garnier, who also served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, aims to strengthen the legacy of the program through “transformative and results-focused initiatives,” according to an interview conducted by the Barton School of Business.

Academic Integrity Faculty Satisfaction results now available

The results of the Academic Integrity: Faculty Satisfaction survey have been posted – with the need for more academic integrity training opportunities most emphasized. The Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) collected data from WSU teaching faculty and staff earlier this year, with the largest number of respondents from the School of Education/Applied Studies (21%) and the School of Engineering (19%).

A complete list of results, including quick statistics and key takeaways can be found on the Faculty Satisfaction Survey Results webpage.
