WSU Basketball player being investigated for sexual assault
Wichita police announced Thursday morning that an investigation into a possible sexual assault by a former Wichita State basketball player has begun.
Lt. Doug Nolte said that the victim was a 20 year old female who was not a WSU student. The incident happened last Saturday at the home of the accused.
According to the police report the victim woke up to being raped around 3:57 to 4:30 a.m. The alleged assault was reported on Saturday at 11 a.m.
No details have been released on who the player is except that they are a former player who was on the Final Four team.
Athletic director Eric Sexton released a statement Thursday morning.
“Wichita State University has been informed of the police investigation,” it said. “We are mindful and respectful of all parties involved. Wichita State University and the athletic department take this situation very seriously, and are cooperating with the Wichita Police Department. At this time it is important to let the investigative process take its course.”
