Paranormal

Here we go again … for the fourth time. There are only so many times I can tolerate an entire film shot in night vision. What’s even more mind-boggling is that the film will be playing at the IMAX. Thankfully, it’s just for a week, because the next Bond film, “Skyfall,” will be there next week. It must feel so good to be the filmmakers of these “Paranormal Activity” films. They put so little into them, in terms of budget, and get so much more out of them. It’s too bad that money can’t be put into making more ambitious films. It’s recommended for those who love to watch the entire theater jump in their seats, but I personally can find something better to do with my time than watch the same movie yet again.

Alex Cross

Actor and playwright Tyler Perry, best known for his drag role of Madea Simmons, takes on the more serious role of Alex Cross, a Washington D.C. police detective, created by thriller novelist James Patterson. The role was previously played by Morgan Freeman in two films, “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider.” Although this isn’t Perry’s first non-comedic role, some skepticism has been brought forth on whether or not he can be taken seriously. An even bigger problem is that the previous Alex Cross films were rated R, while this new film is downgraded to PG-13. This attempt at starting a new franchise is reminiscent when they tried to restart Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan with Ben Affleck, which is being attempted again with Chris Pine. If you’re a die-hard fan of Alex Cross, I would check it out, but for the causal movie goer, just try one of the Freeman-led Cross films.
