Student Government: A resource of students, for students
The Wichita State Student Government Association, or SGA, wants to understand students’ concerns and encourages their involvement, especially by voting during elections.
A priority of SGA is providing students and campus organizations with funding. Once requests for travel, projects, grants, scholarships, guest speakers or studies are submitted, a decision is made. SGA controls $10.8 million and it decides how the money should be distributed.
The student body is encouraged to have its say with these decisions, which are discussed during weekly SGA meetings. Students are also encouraged to voice concerns involving the school and may write resolutions to be voted on by the Senate. If passed, they would become campus laws.
Anyone interested may attend the public Senate meetings. The first fall semester meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 in Ahlberg Hall, room 200.
SGA is also looking for student representatives. At least one position must be filled by a freshman. If enrollment for incoming freshmen is high enough, two positions may open. Students interested in voting on a committee or becoming a senator may fill out an application from the SGA office in Room 203 of the RSC.
