Wichita State has a new student body president and vice president. Jia Wen Wang and Amy Nguyen were sworn into office Thursday morning, along with new senators and justices and returning Chief Justice Lesly Hernandez.
“This role is nothing short of a promise,” Wang said. “It’s a promise that Amy and I have made to the 17,000 students on WSU’s campus.”

Wang said her administration has a strong legacy to follow.
“This does not intimidate me,” she said. “Rather, it motivates me to think even more creatively, to find even further ways to engage and represent the student body on a larger, grander scale. I am going to lead with vision, collaboration and accountability to build a space where every student voice is heard and valued, so we can build a campus culture for anyone and everyone.”

Teri Hall, WSU’s vice president for Student Affairs, offered congratulations and advice to the incoming SGA session.
“We’re in a big time of transition right now in higher education, even as a university, and so it’s harder to think about the future than it has been in the past,” Hall said. “My encouragement to you is to think about ‘What do we need to do right now? What can we do right now?’ And we worry about the future as the future comes.”
