In one of her first acts as Student Body President Jia Wen Wang created a new student position in her cabinet, focusing on the relationship between the Student Government Association and WSU’s athletics department.
According to the executive order, Wang’s administration wants to “strengthen the connection” between athletics and the general student body, “as a tool for strategic collaboration to inform policy and resource allocation decisions.”
Wang said that ideally the athletic engagement director would be “somebody able to help guide me.”
“I’ll admit, I’m not the strongest in knowing what these terminologies and things are and on top of that, going through the past few sessions (of SGA), there’s been a really, really big gap in communication between athletics, SGA and students as a whole,” Wang said.
She said another goal is increasing student attendance at athletic events.
The administration also created another new position: a professional development director, and appointed its media relations director.
