Wichita State’s Student Senate confirmed the appointment of the executive branch, including a new student body treasurer, undergraduate student advocate and chief of staff at its last meeting of the semester.
Here are the appointments:
Chief of staff: Kaylee Fritz
Fritz was appointed to be chief of staff. She previously served as the director of leadership and engagement and led the Student Government Association’s Freshman Leadership Council.
“What stands out most about Kaylee is her organizational strength and efficiency,” Student Body President Jia Wen Wang said. “She ensures that nothing falls through the cracks, and her attention to detail is unmatched.”
Student body treasurer: Luke Bumm
Bumm replaces former Student Body Treasurer, now student body president, Jia Wen Wang. He previously served on SGA’s Finance Commission.
The student body treasurer is responsible for SGA’s budget, including leading the Finance Commission to allocate funding for SGA departments, agencies and student organizations.
Undergraduate advocate: Jayden Island
Island, a former senator, replaces former Undergraduate Advocate Annie Wasinger. The undergraduate student advocate assists students with parking and traffic as well as student conduct and academic integrity appeals while acting as a liaison between students and the executive branch.
Legislative and policy affairs director: Lily Arens
Arens will continue in her role as legislative and policy affairs director.
“I look forward to building on the work I started over the past 12 months,” Arens said. “I want to increase student engagement with the state of Kansas, build better connections with our local and state representatives and continue to serve as a liaison between the executive and legislative branches within our own student government.”
Wang also announced two executive orders, appointing her administration’s new health and wellness and student organizations directors.
Health and wellness director: Anouska Raju
Raju will head the administration’s health and wellness initiatives, such as the Menstrual Product Project. She is a junior studying biomedical engineering.
“As director of health and wellness, I see a meaningful opportunity to bridge the gap between students and the resources designed to support them,” Raju said.
Student organizations director: Morshed Khan
The student organizations director acts as a liaison between SGA and student organizations. Khan said that he wants to focus on making sure student organizations represent a wide variety of students.
A recording of the meeting is available via SGA’s YouTube channel. Over the summer, the Senate will not meet, but SGA business will be conducted by a Legislative Council made up of senior members.
