SGA executive position vacated, no plans to replace

Former Student Chief of Staff Kaylee Fritz, who managed records for the Student Government Association executive branch, resigned prior to the first Student Senate meeting of the year. Student Body President Jia Wen Wang is not planning to fill the position.

“Replacing the position now does not serve a long-term purpose for the administration,” Wang wrote in the executive order removing the position.

The duties of the role will now be dispersed between Student Body Vice President Amy Nguyen, Legislative and Policy Affairs Director Lily Arens and the SGA Central Office, composed of university employees.

The position will remain vacated until a future student body president reverses the executive order filed by Wang.

The disbursement of chief of staff duties is as follows, according to the executive order:

Vice president duties:

Oversee preservation and distribution of all public records of the association.
Make preliminary determinations regarding any open records requests to the association with denied requests being appealed automatically to the president.
Monitor and hold accountable the progress of ongoing initiatives and projects of all of the executive branch.
Facilitate effective communication between the cabinet and individuals working on official association projects and initiatives.
Access both on campus and off campus policies that affect the decisions of the executive branch.
Assist the vice president in performing a comprehensive review of the legislative journal over the course of the summer.

Legislative and policy affairs director duties:

Draft, investigate, produce, and develop recommendations to the university policies or KBOR policies as well as complete necessary research over specifics of policies.

Central Office duties:

Oversee and execute the coordination, codification, collection, publication, and distribution of the legislative journal.
Record all official action by the executive and cabinet, and together with official office memos submit the records to be added to the journal each year.
Record minutes of each official cabinet meeting, and upload these to the association’s chosen student organization management system which shall be uploaded no later than 30 days after each meeting.
Distribute any legislation passed by the senate or any party mentioned specifically in legislation and to any other concerned parties.
