A Wichita State student senator wants information about health services to be more visible to students.
Liberal Arts and Sciences Senator Josh Mallard presented a resolution at the Feb. 11 weekly Student Senate meeting that would recommend a “clearly labeled student health header” be added to the Student Tools section of myWSU. Currently, there is no direct link to Student Health Services on the home page of myWSU.
“If a student is looking for health services, they have to look it up,” Mallard said. “It’d just be a lot easier if they just see it, and then they could, ‘Oh yeah, I have a lot of health options.’”
The resolution also suggests that commonly used links be included under the student health header, such as the tuberculosis screening survey, myShockerhealth portal and after-hours and medical emergencies links.
SGA resolutions are suggestions to the university, and act as the official opinion of the association.
“I also did send this to the director (of Student Health Service), so she did go over this and provide her own input into what she would like,” Mallard said.
The resolution has been referred to the Student Services Committee, where it may be revised before coming back to the senate for debate and a vote at a later meeting.
Students can share their thoughts on legislation at weekly Student Senate meetings during the public forum period. Senate meetings are on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhatigan Student Center, room 233.
A recording of the meeting is available here. SGA live streams all senate meetings on its Youtube channel.
