Dear Shockers,
Election season for Wichita State’s Student Government Association begins in a little less than a week.
Over a year ago, Vice President Amy Nguyen and I embarked on a journey to create change, establish new initiatives and advocate for the Student Body, guided by three principles: belonging, intentionality and persistence. We have been honored to serve and voice the needs of students for several years now, in various positions within student government. We would like to extend an invitation to serve within the Student Government Association, and shape the future of Wichita State University for your fellow Shockers.
The Student Government Association has a long and proud history rooted in student leadership and advocacy.
Since SGA’s founding in 1912, students have played a vital role in ensuring that the student voice is heard and represented. Student leaders have worked to improve campus life, establish and disburse resources and represent their peers in important university decisions.
The Student Government Association exists to serve and represent the needs, concerns, and ideas of the student body. Whether advocating for student resources, allocating Student Fee funding or working alongside University leadership, student leaders help shape the campus experience for everyone.
That long legacy continues today, but its future depends on students like you.
There are many ways to be involved. Students can run for student body president and student body vice president as a ticket, serving as the primary student representatives and advocates for the Shocker community. Students can also run for student senator, representing their college or a specific student population, to ensure that unique perspectives are included in decision-making.
These roles are opportunities to lead, serve and create meaningful change. Student leaders gain valuable experience, develop leadership skills and leave a lasting impact on Wichita State.
We encourage you to consider running for office and becoming a part of this tradition of student leadership. Your voice matters, your perspective is valuable and your leadership can help shape the future of our university. Visit wichita.edu/sgaelections to declare candidacy. The deadline is March 1 at 11:59 p.m.
Step forward. Lead with honor, pride, and integrity. Run for the Student Government Association.
With Shocker Pride,
Jia Wen Wang
Student Body President
68th Session of the Student Government Association
