After months of hearing from various candidates and hosting forums for the final four, Jamarco Clark has been selected as Wichita State’s new vice president for Student Affairs.
“During the search process, Dr. Clark was widely viewed by all stakeholders as an ideal fit for the position and for WSU,” Provost Monica Lounsbery wrote in an announcement to Academic Affairs faculty and staff Friday morning.
The vice president of Student Affairs works under university President Richard Muma to oversee various programs — like Student Engagement and Belonging and the Office of Student Accommodations and Testing — that focus on student life.
Director of the Rhatigan Student Center Kevin Konda will remain as interim vice president of Student Affairs until July 1, when Clark begins.
Clark is currently the vice chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois Springfield. In Clark’s public forum at WSU before being selected, he emphasized collaboration and showing up for every student.
“So that means the 18-year-old, that means the 50-year-old student who’s continuing education, that means the post-traditional,” Clark said. “I’m everyone’s vice chancellor, and so I truly believe in that idea of connecting every student.”
Clark also said he helps students by finding their “four P’s” — path, places, people and purpose.
“For those who were able to participate in campus interviews, I am sure you, as I did, had the opportunity to understand that Dr. Clark has an extraordinary level of commitment to students and their success,” Lounsbery wrote.
“I believe he will be an innovator and collaborator for all university divisions.”
