Sarah Lamatsch and Kailene Vea-Spencer were approved by Wichita State’s Student Senate Wednesday evening to be associate justices on the Student Supreme Court.
Lamatsch is a first-year political science student with plans for law school. She is also currently on the Student Government Association’s Freshmen Leadership Council.

“Through my experience with Freshmen Leadership Council this year, I got to work with a lot of people in SGA, and figure out a lot of the ins and outs of this organization,” Lamatsch said. “Through that work, I learned that I really would like to be an associate justice.”
Vea-Spencer is a second-year student studying criminal justice and also plans to pursue law school. The bill appointing Vea-Spencer states she is “an advocate for justice (and) serving and guiding students on the laws of the Association.”
“I strive for my student engagement — as a student leader — to be rooted in making sure students are represented and prioritized in spaces where decisions enhance their student experience,” Vea-Spencer said.
Vea-Spencer previously served as the president of the Black Student Union.
The two will be sworn in on Monday when the Student Supreme Court meets and will remain in their positions until they graduate, step down or are removed.
Wichita State’s Student Senate meets every Wednesday during the academic year at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhatigan Student Center, room 233, and live streamed on SGA’s YouTube. The current session has one more meeting left on April 22, and the next session begins the week following.
