For the first time in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) history, a commemorative banner was hung in an alumni team’s arena.  

To commemorate last year’s TBT championship, a banner was dropped in section 123 of Charles Koch Arena prior to the AfterShocks’ first round game against The Enchantment (New Mexico). 

The AfterShocks were the first team in TBT history to win on their home court, and now Charles Koch Arena is home to the first banner dropping ceremony in TBT history. 

The crowd roared as the black banner dropped from the rafters.

“I loved it,” last year’s tournament MVP Marcus Keene said about the fans’ reaction. “Growing up, I saw how all those games were when Wichita State was winning all those games back in the day. It’s just a fun atmosphere to be in.”

The banner was put in an odd spot. It almost touches one of the top rows of seats in sections 123, and blocks the top few rows from being used in the section. 

The banner will be taken down after the tournament concludes, according to Wichita State Athletics.
