Softball holds Hutch to zero runs, defeats Blue Dragons 12-0
With a 12-0 victory over Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday, the Shocker softball team improved their record to 5-0.
The Shockers out-hit the Blue Dragons 11-3 and led with zero errors compared to Hutch’s two. Offensively, the Shockers had two major players: sophomore McKenzie Adams was 2-4 with one RBI along with junior Macklin Hitz, who was 1-3 with a homerun. Meanwhile, there were also nine players who made at least one base hit on the day.
“The game was about being disciplined at the plate,” head coach Kristi Bredbenner said. “We struggled a little bit early, but made some adjustments at the end and got done what we needed to.”
Defensively, the Shockers had sophomore Kelsey Sterneker on the mound for four innings, giving up only two hits and one walk. Junior Jenni Brooks was on the mound for one inning, giving up one hit and one walk, and finally senior Ashlynne Neil pitched a no-hitter through two innings.
Even with this victory, the Shockers aren’t done yet. The team will compete in three games Saturday.

Their second game is scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m. against Rockhurst University. Finally, the day will finish with a game at 4:30 p.m. between Rockhurst and Johnson County.
