Wichita State sophomore Hannah Wagner got about five seconds of fame Sunday night in the Miss America competition.

Each of the candidates representing 52 United States and unincorporated terrorities introduced themselves in the first minutes of the two-hour long program.

When it was her turn, Wagner said she was from the “air capital of the world.”

Later, the pageant announced its top 15 based on preliminary competitions in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where Miss America is held.

The Miss Kansas Organization is a non-profit organization that offers collegiate scholarships for young women. Sponsors have collected more than $40 million in scholarships available for contestants.

Wagner, a businss major at WSU, was crowned Miss Kansas over the summer.

“The best part about competing is knowing that it’s a scholarship organization, it’s not anything to do with beauty,” Wagner said. “Seeing that there are so many women involved in college education is amazing, and walking out with over $7,000 in scholarships is very rewarding.”
