Courtney’s Corner: The Script: Soundtrack for your life

The Script came onto the music scene in 2001, but what most don’t know is the band is from Ireland.

The rock band signed to Columbia Records released its latest album, “No Sound Without Silence,” in September and is on tour to promote it. This is the first full-length album from the band.

From the latest album came the creative and lyrically solid song, “Man on a Wire,” which they released a music video for last month.

According to the Irish Examiner, The Script is received in Ireland as the biggest thing since U2, but is still down to earth. The band has sold more than 10 million copies in its run, but they won’t be the ones to tell you that. In fact, you probably don’t know the members’ names, which are Mark Sheehan, lead singer, Danny O’Donoghue, guitar, and Glen Power, drums (I had to look it up because I didn’t know). And the band probably doesn’t want you to, because they are more focused on the music and not on their personalities.

All of their songs tell stories and are down to earth, and that is the band’s intent.

“I live in a local terrace house,” Sheehan told the Irish Examiner in September. “I drink in my local pub. It’s important you don’t lose yourself.”

“Massive success” is not the best phrase to describe them, at least not yet. They still have a long ways to go to come anywhere near the album sales and popularity of One Direction, Taylor Swift or others. But in the meantime, their songs have been featured on many television shows such as “Made in Chelsea” and the CW’s “Vampire Diaries.”

In 2012, they actually came through Wichita and made a stop at Hartman Arena.

It was at that concert the band played their first hits, “Breakeven” and “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” to a sold-out crowd of teens and 20-somethings. That same year, they released their song, “Hall of Fame” featuring will.i.am. It has more than 175 million views on YouTube and has been used for anthems and promotions.

It’s interesting to go back and trace many bands like them and see if they have come through Wichita, because many of them actually have when they were just starting out.

Check out The Script if you haven’t already. Their songs might help you get through something in your personal life you didn’t know you wanted to get over.
