How to nap without really trying
Naps: the fun-sized versions of comas and life support for college students.
Naps provide many students with an extra burst of energy needed to get through the average day of lectures, research and writing.
However, finding the best place to nap on campus can be a challenge.
To determine where to nap you must first decide how to nap. There’s the classic hood nap in which you put the hood of your sweatshirt up, cross your arms, slump your body and sit in whatever chair you can find.
Then there is the sprawl, the napping form that results in you cuddling with your backpack and your legs slung over the arm of the chair or couch you just stole from that kid who did not call seat back.
My favorite form of napping happens to be the desk nap. Here you cross your arms on the table, put your forehead on your arms or desk and hope for the best.
Whichever form of napping you decide on, here are some pointers to find the best place to nap on campus.
My first suggestion is if you have a car on campus and a lot of time that should be your go-to spot. Your car can provide you with security, privacy, as well as a gloriously reclined seat.
The next napping place to consider is the library. Here there are many nooks, crannies and couches you can acquire for the perfectly timed nap. The library is not only quiet but it’s generally a judgment-free zone unlike the noisy Rhatigan Student Center.
Other places I suggest are the upper floors of any campus building. Hubbard Hall, for instance, has a computer lab on the fifth floor that is perfect for a desk nap, especially because no one goes in there.
If you happen to be a small person with the sleeping capabilities of Monte Cristo on a slab of stone, then the in-wall benches of McKinley Hall are for you.
Wherever you decide to nap, make sure to keep your belongings close to your body. Also, have an alarm set so your quick snooze doesn’t turn into an all-day drool fest.
No matter what, keep your eyes peeled when walking on campus and going to class.
The next bench you see could be the nap spot of your daydreams.
