Holi brings color to Heskett lawn

Not a single clean shirt could be found on the Heskett west lawn Sunday afternoon. Colors were flying as the third annual Holi celebration, otherwise known as the Festival of Colors, took place.

Holi is a traditional Hindu festival hosted by the Association of Hindu Students in American [AHINSA]. Participants in the festival were showered with color as colored powder and water balloons were thrown at each other.

No student or bystander was safe from being soaked with water guns, being thrown in a bucket of water, or having an all out color transformation.

This year was resident assistant Andrea Nisly’s second time participating.

“My favorite part is getting to know my international students and just having fun,” Nisly said. “I think today had a really good turnout because it’s popular with residents, not just the international students”

The festival welcomes spring and celebrates the victory of good over evil.

“To me it means the celebration of spring, getting together, and celebrating new life,” participant Nashita Prsad said.
