Awards and honors keep rolling the Shockers’ way. Adding to the team’s numerous individual honors and a perfect season, head coach Gregg Marshall was named Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year for the third year in a row.

As head coach, Marshall has brought the team to take several school and national records including guiding the fifth-straight season to 24 or more wins and 12 or more conference wins.

“He’s definitely a great coach,” senior Cleanthony Early said. “That shows with him winning three years straight Coach of the Year awards. Like he gives a lot of credit to us as players, saying how he got lucky to get in this situation and get us. We say the same thing right back coming into this situation and this program.”

Receiving 39 out of possible 40 first-place votes and a total of 118 points, Marshall outlasted Southern Illinois head coach Barry Hinson, who finished with 40 points.

Marshall is the second coach ever in the league to be named with the honor three consecutive times following Drake’s hall of fame former head coach Maury John.

Marshall is expected to formally accept his honor this evening at a dinner and reception in Saint Louis, Mo.
