Wichita nightlife gems that stand apart
Whiskey Dick’s
801 S. Seneca
(316) 425 – 7660
Open 2 p.m. – 2 a.m. daily
Sharing an owner with the Field House, Whiskey Dick’s has a similar atmosphere with many of the same regular customers.
Whiskey Dick’s offers a full menu of typical American bar food. They also have a meat smoker, which they use for Fresh Smoke Sundays.
Tuesday night is Trivia night, starting at 8 p.m. Appetizers are half-price on Wednesdays, and tacos are $1 on Thursdays.
During October, they also have Oktoberfest celebrations every Thursday. They serve German sausage platters, Oktoberfest beers and have live polka music.
Visit Whiskey Dick’s on Facebook for more information and upcoming events.
The Anchor
1109 E. Douglas Ave.
(316) 260 – 8989
Mon. – Sat. 11 a.m. – 2 a.m.
Sun. 10 a.m. – 12 a.m.
The Anchor opened as a bar, but has since become a bar and grill. With more than 50 draft beers and 100 bottles, daytime manager Daniel Martin said beer is their specialty.
Beer is priced at $3.50 after 10 p.m.
“We’re trying to increase our late night business,” Martin said.
The Anchor plans to open a butcher shop called Douglas Street Chop Shop next year. The chop shop will be located in the vacant building adjacent to the restaurant.
The full drink specials can be located on the Anchor’s Facebook page.
The Vagabond
614 W. Douglas Ave.
(316) 303 – 1110
7 a.m. – 2 a.m., daily
Set up like a café with a wall of liquor behind the counter, the Vagabond is a perfect mixture between coffee shop and neighborhood bar.
Customers can sip wine and read a book, grab a coffee and study for a test or slam beers with their buds.
Daily drinks specials include $2.50 wells on Mondays, beer specials Tuesday through Saturday and $3.50 Bloody Mary’s on Sunday.
The Vagabond also displays local artists’ work. For information on displaying art, simply ask the barista.

The Field House
3825 E. 17th St N.
(316) 685 – 9448
Mon. – Sat. 3 p.m. – 2 a.m.
Sun. 6 p.m. – 2 a.m.
At first look, it seems like a typical hole-in-the-wall bar with one pool table and two dartboards, but what sets the Field House apart are its special events.
They recently held their 10th annual charity golf tournament to raise money for a customer in need.
“We usually pick someone who had an unexpected medical issue and needs help paying bills,” bartender Dan Mann said.
Their bi-annual VIP party, with $1.75 You-Call-Its, $4 pitchers and free steak, is Oct. 21.
The ninth annual chili cook-off, open to anyone, is Nov. 10.
Visit the Field House’s Facebook page for information on other upcoming events.
