Ceremony to recognize faculty, staff longevity
Some of Wichita State’s employees have worked for the university for decades. Faculty and staff who have served for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years will be recognized at a special ceremony on campus on Friday.
“There’s a long list of individuals who have been here any number of those years. Actually, this list is about 134 people long,” said Carmen Hytche, WSU director of community relations and special events.
Hytche said the ceremony is one of three that WSU holds for its long-time employees, whose years of service are recognized in five-year increments. Two other events have already paid tribute to current long-term employees and those who have retired.
During Friday’s ceremony, those honored will receive certificates bearing their years of service, and lapel pins displaying their respective number of years worked.
Hytche said that the public is welcome to attend and the honorees can invite their family and friends.
“Students sometimes attend to support our faculty and staff members that they really appreciate,” she said. “This is an opportunity to give recognition and appreciation to those individuals that help the university operate, run and fulfill its mission to educate and to help students reach their educational goals.”
The event is set for 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Activities Center Theater. A short reception at 3:00 p.m. will precede the ceremony. A complete list of honorees can be found at wichita.edu/serviceawards.
