YOLO Grill is an affordable oasis for burger lovers

I never could understand the “YOLO” catchphrase that hit social media sites in the last year, so I was almost too quick to avoid the YOLO Grill, which opened about a month ago near Central and West streets.

Don’t let the name keep you from this West Street burger joint, though.

Located in an old Sonic Drive-in building and sporting a new coat of green paint, YOLO Grill offers a selection of hamburgers and other sandwiches that fit a college student’s budget.

YOLO boasts its made-from-scratch French fries and hamburger buns. I expected the fries to be a greasy, soggy mess. But to my surprise, they were just right and the buns were toasted perfection.

The West Coast Burger, priced at $4.80, is one of the more expensive selections on the menu because of two avocado slices. Additional toppings range from 25 cents to 75 cents and include bacon, grilled onions or sautéed mushrooms. For $2 more, diners can order a small fry and a large drink.

All of YOLO’s burgers are char-grilled, which sets the thick patty apart from other competitors around town.

Other burgers on the menu are topped with onion rings, mushroom sauce, pulled pork, hot links, sautéed jalapenos, or cayenne pepper, giving every burger lover something to choose from. They even offer gluten-free options.

The YOLO sign can’t be missed driving down West Street, so don’t look the other way because of the name. I promise you won’t regret it.
