Alumni Association invites fans to official watch party
Student tickets to watch the Shocker basketball team play in Atlanta this weekend may be sold out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the Final Four surrounded by avid Wichita State fans.
The university’s official watch party will be hosted by the WSU Alumni Association on Saturday at Fox and Hound at the Waterfront, located at 13th Street and Webb Road. These watch parties are a WSU tradition, but take on a whole new meaning at this level of competition.
“Some people will show up two and a half hours early before the game actually starts,” Rachael Hush, assistant director of alumni events, said. “It fills up so fast and I think we’re going to have a full house.”
During the regular season, Hush said around 100 people usually show up at the Fox and Hound watch parties. Hush said she is expecting a lot more for this game.
“During the NCAA tournament we’ve had more than that. I think the last time we had 200 to 250,” she said. “There’s a lot of fans out there.”
Reservations are not required and there is not a cover charge.
“It’s first come, first serve,” Hush said. “There are, I believe, about four or five rooms at Fox and Hound that are probably going to be overflowing.”
Anyone is welcome to attend.
“It’s such an exciting time for Wichita State and it’s definitely nice to see everyone at Fox and Hound cheering for the team,” Hush said.
The Alumni Association will also do a drawing at halftime to give out three prizes.
“It’s just great because we’re cheering on our Shockers from Wichita while they’re playing in Atlanta,” Hush said. “It’s just such a fun atmosphere.”
